 There's no better way to learn about wine than tasting comparatively, talking about it while you're tasting it ("so that's why this wine tastes different than that!"), and hearing about the wine's background. (Plus, it's the most fun you'll ever have learning something.)

 


Reds & Whites of Southern Italy - Tuesday, January 27 (MPM) and Wednesday, January 28 (Shorewood)

Southern Italy is home to a plethora of indigenous and distinctive varietals, such as Greco di Tufo, Catarratto, Insolia, and Falanghina for whites and Nero d'Avola, Aglianico, Nerello Mascalese, and Frappato on the red side. For this tasting we'll delve into the history of the region and taste through several unique varietals that you perhaps haven't tried before but are certainly worth experiencing! The wines will be:

  • Marco de Bartoli 2013 “Lucido” Cataratto, Sicily Italy ($19.95)
  • Mastroberardino 2011 "Mastro" Aglianico / Piedirosso, Campania Italy ($9.95)
  • Arianna Occhipinti 2012 "Il Frappato" Frappato, Sicily Italy ($39.95)
  • Saia 2011 Nero d'Avola, Sicily Italy ($19.95)
  • Romeo de Castello 2012 “Allegracore” Nerello Mascalese / Nerello Cappuccio, Etna Italy ($26.95)

Tantalizing Tempranillo - Tuesday, February 10 (MPM) and Wednesday, February 11 (Shorewood)

Tempranillo is one of the world's classic varietals and the jewel of Spain's wine culture, yet has thrived nowhere else (excepting Portugal). It's a malleable grape, and is made in a wide range of styles throughout the country. In this tasting, we'll explore the classic regions for Spanish Tempranillo - Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Toro, tasting wines made in both the traditional and modern styles. Ranging from medium to full bodied, these wines offer something for every red wine lover. Wines TBD.

Riesling is one of the world's great white wines, with exceptional depth, richness, and longevity. Most people know of only the sweeter versions, but Riesling can be made in a variety of styles and flavor profiles. For this tasting, we'll taste and learn about Rieslings from around the world and in a range of styles and sweetness levels, with wines from Austria, France, the U.S., and Germany. Wines TBD:
