no better way to learn about wine than tasting comparatively, talking
about it while you're tasting it ("so that's why this wine tastes
different than that!"), and hearing about the wine's background. (Plus,
it's the most fun you'll ever have learning something.)
Merlot & Blends - Tuesday, Apr. 15 (MPM) & Wednesday, Apr. 16 (Shorewood)
Seatings at 6 & 7:30 p.m. at MPM; 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood
Of course you want some delicious Merlot! Smooth, full of lush plum and berry fruit, what's not to like? Oh, the sea of bad Merlot out there - thin, simple, possibly slightly weedy - right. Don't let the bad wines ruin it for the others, though; when done well Merlot can be absolutely delicious. For this tasting we'll taste through several examples (both Merlot-based and 100% Merlot) from France, California, and Washington. Go against the grain - drink Merlot! The wines will be:
- Revelry 2010 Merlot, Columbia Valley Washington ($13.95)
- Long Shadows 2008 "Pedestal" Merlot, Columbia Valley Washington ($54.95)
- Chateaul Bel Air 2010 Bordeaux, France ($11.95)
- Chateau Lecuyer 2009 Pomerol, Bordeaux France ($57.95)
- Joseph Carr 2011 Merlot, Napa County California ($18.95)
- Truchard 2010 Merlot, Carneros California ($28.95)
Cost of the tasting is $20 + tax. Seatings are at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at MPM and 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood. RSVPs are required; a credit card is required to secure your reservation. (If you call to cancel by 2 p.m. the day of the tasting, your card will not be charged. If you are on the wait list, we'll notify you by 2 p.m. if space has become available.)
