There's no better way to learn about wine than tasting comparatively, talking about it while you're tasting it ("so that's why this wine tastes different than that!"), and hearing about the wine's background. (Plus, it's the most fun you'll ever have learning something.)

Exploring Domestic Pinot Noir - Tuesday, January 9 (MPM), and Wednesday, January 10 (Shorewood)
Seatings at 6 & 7:30 p.m. at MPM; 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood
It's been a while since we've had a tasting focused on U.S. examples of one of our favorite grapes, Pinot Noir, so it's time to rectify that! Inherently fickle, ethereal, and haunting, with flavors and aromas of cherry, strawberry, umami, loam, forest floor, mushroom, spice, and so much more, when grown in warmer spots for the varietal it can also take on richer, more robust notes. For this tasting we'll taste several examples from Oregon's Willamette Valley and up and down the California coast, in a range of styles and prices. The wines will be similar yet different, and all delicious! The wines will be:

  • Chloe 2016 Pinot Noir, Monterey California ($9.95)
  • 60 Souls 2014 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley Oregon ($20.95)
  • Beaux Freres 2015 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley Oregon ($54.95)
  • Presq'ile 2012 Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley California ($29.95)
  • Pillow Road 2014 Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley California ($43.95)
  • Belle Glos 2016 "Las Alturas" Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands California ($44.95)

Cost of the tasting is $20 + tax per person. Seatings are at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at MPM and 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood. RSVPs are required; a credit card is required to secure your reservation. (If you call to cancel by 3 p.m. the day of the tasting, your card will not be charged. If you are on the wait list, we'll notify you by 3 p.m. if space has become available.) Email info@thiefwine.com or call us at 414.277.7707 (MPM) or 414.906.1906 (Shorewood).

Great Grüner - Tuesday, January 23 (MPM), and Wednesday, January 24 (Shorewood)
Seatings at 6 & 7:30 p.m. at MPM; 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood
Grüner Veltliner is likely the best white grape you haven't experienced enough of! Crisp, rich, grapefruity, peppery, minerally, great with food or on its own, Grüner's got it all. For this tasting we'll taste several examples from Austria - the grape's home and where it's primarily grown - at a range of prices and quality levels, along with an example or two from elsewhere around the world. Wines TBD.

Cost of the tasting is $15 + tax per person. Seatings are at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at MPM and 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood. RSVPs are required; a credit card is required to secure your reservation. (If you call to cancel by 3 p.m. the day of the tasting, your card will not be charged. Tantalizing Tempranillo - Tuesday, February 6 (MPM), and Wednesday, February 7 (Shorewood)
Seatings at 6 & 7:30 p.m. at MPM; 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood
Tempranillo is one of the world's classic varietals and the jewel of Spain's wine culture, yet has thrived nowhere else (excepting Portugal). It's a malleable grape, and is made in a wide range of styles throughout the country. In this tasting, we'll explore the classic regions for Spanish Tempranillo - Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Toro, tasting wines made in both the traditional and modern styles. Ranging from medium to full bodied, these wines offer something for every red wine lover. Wines TBD.

Cost of the tasting is TBD. Seatings are at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at MPM and 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood. RSVPs are required; a credit card is required to secure your reservation. (If you call to cancel by 3 p.m. the day of the tasting, your card will not be charged. Exploring Greek Wines - Tuesday, February 20 (MPM), and Wednesday, February 21 (Shorewood)
Seatings at 6 & 7:30 p.m. at MPM; 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood
In our almost ten years of Thief Wine's existence, we've never done a tasting focused on the wines of Greece! So, let's fix that. Greece has one of the oldest wine cultures in the world and is still exceptionally vibrant, producing distinctive white and red wines from indigenous grapes such as Assyrtiko, Moschofilero, Aghiorgitiko, and more. Please join us to discover these grapes and the varied wine regions of this historic wine country.
