There's no better way to learn about wine than tasting comparatively, talking about it while you're tasting it ("so that's why this wine tastes different than that!"), and hearing about the wine's background. (Plus, it's the most fun you'll ever have learning something.)

Old World / New World Comparison: Reds - August 7 (MPM), and Wednesday, August 8 (Shorewood)
Seatings at 6 & 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at MPM and 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood on Wednesday
Wines from the Old World (i.e., Europe) are often generalized as being more restrained, savory, nuanced, less fruit-forward, and higher in acid and lower in alcohol compared to their New World counterparts. Is this still the case? For this tasting we'll explore three sets of red wines focusing on different varietals, with an Old World and a New World wine for each set. Join us for an informative and delicious comparison tasting! The wines will be:

  • Domaine Arnoux 2014 Rouge, Burgundy France ($26.95)
  • Mud House 2016 Pinot Noir, Central Otago New Zealand ($16.95)
  • Perrin 2015 "Les Cornuds" Vinsobres, Cotes du Rhone France ($20.95)
  • Yangarra Estate 2015 "GSM, McLaren Vale Australia ($23.95)
  • Chateau Richebon 2014 Pauillac, Bordeaux France ($42.95)
  • Darioush 2014 "Caravan", Napa Valley California ($49.95)

Cost of the tasting is $20 + tax per person. Seatings are at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at MPM and 6 & 8 p.m. at Shorewood. RSVPs are required; a credit card is required to secure your reservation. (If you call to cancel by 3 p.m. the day of the tasting, your card will not be charged. Radio Coteau Winery Tasting - August 14 (MPM)
Drop in between 5:30 - 7:30 at the Public Market
Please join us at our Public Market location on Tuesday, August 14, for a tasting of exceptional wines from Sonoma's Radio Coteau Winery! Radio Coteau is a small producer that's lesser known in Wisconsin than they should be, given their sought-after status and high regard among wine cognoscenti, but here's your chance to discover them! Founded in 2002 by proprietor and winegrower Eric Sussman, Radio Coteau (colloquial French for "word of mouth", which is fitting, because that's how Eric works - no advertising, let the wines speak for themselves) is known for their exceptional Pinot Noirs crafted in an Old World style (moderate alcohol, balanced acidity, ageworthy), and also makes wonderful Syrah, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel as well. This casual drop-in tasting is a great way to taste and experience what they have to offer! Evan Damiano, our distributor for these wines, will be on hand to showcase this outstanding lineup. The wines will be:

  • "Wingtine" 2016 Chardonnay, Sonoma Coast ($64.95)
  • "County Line" 2016 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast ($33.95)
  • "La Neblina" 2013 Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast ($54.95)
  • "Savoy" 2013 Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley ($64.95)
  • "Las Colinas" 2014 Syrah, Sonoma Coast ($49.95)
  • "Lemorel Estate" 2013 Zinfandel, Sonoma Coast ($54.95)

Cost of the tasting is $15 per person. No reservations are required; drop in between 5:30 - 7:30 at our Milwaukee Public Market location. Email info@thiefwine.com or call us at 414.277.7707 (MPM) or 414.906.1906 (Shorewood) for more information.

Thief Wine's Fall Grand Tasting - Friday, October 26 (MPM)
We're going to switch up the timing a bit this year - instead of doing a Saturday afternoon (when the Public Market is at its peak customer capacity), we're going to have the Fall Grand Tasting on a Friday evening, which should be easier parking and flow for everyone. It'll be the same format as previous Grand Tastings, but with all new wines, of course; hours will be: Reserve Level 5:30 - 7pm, General Admission 7 - 9pm. Ticket details coming soon.
