There's no better way to learn about wine than tasting comparatively, talking about it while you're tasting it ("so that's why this wine tastes different than that!"), and hearing about the wine's background. (Plus, it's the most fun you'll ever have learning something.)

Wines of South Africa - Tuesday, August 3
Seatings at 5, 6:15, and 7:30 p.m. at the wine bar
South Africa occupies a unique position in the wine world, straddling the line between Old and New Worlds in terms of winemaking culture and flavor profiles - not as fruity as most New World wines but with more earthiness and minerality, yet fruitier than traditional wines from Old World regions. Plus, they grow Pinotage, one of the most distinctive grape varietals around. In this tasting we'll explore wines and wine regions of this gorgeous country, tasting the major wines and styles that South Africa is known for. The wines will be:
  • Simonsig 2008 Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch
  • Neil Ellis 2008 Chardonnay, Stellenbosch
  • Savanha 2009 Pinotage / Shiraz, Western Cape
  • Edgebaston 2008 "The Pepper Pot", Stellenbosch
  • Simonsig 2006 "Redhill" Pinotage, Stellenbosch
  • Els Englebrecht 2007 Proprietor's Blend, South Africa
Cost of the tasting is $15. Seatings are at 5, 6:15, and 7:30 p.m. RSVPs are required; a credit card is required to secure your reservation. (If you call to cancel by 2 p.m. the day of the tasting, your card will not be charged. If you are on the wait list, we'll notify you by 2 p.m. if space has become available.)
